December in Scotland

Ken is moving along with his Doctorate ( he just got home from a week of classes at the University in Glasgow, Scotland). He's re-energized and getting into his research with gusto.
This time I was fortunate enough to be able to join Ken for a few days.

I went on Wed. and had a couple days in Glasgow exploring the city and spent the evenings with Ken. On the Thurs. night we went to see “The Tragically Hip” which was a really good concert. We went for a big bowl of Chinese soup afterwards – Yum!
On the Friday once Ken finished his classes, we headed to Edinburgh. We walked around seeing the sites, popped into a pub for “a wee tipple” and then walked around the castle area. We met up with a friend later, then went to another pub to catch up. The one thing that is so predominant here is … TARTAN!!! It is everywhere! We saw kilts worn by both men and women, tartan bedspreads and pillows in our hotel, and surprisingly … tartan carpeting on the floors at the pubs, and tartan ‘absolutely everything’ for sale. And I mean everything… not just the usual scarves, tams, ties, blankets, stockings, etc., we also saw in one shop of “tartan everything” that they even sold tartan condoms!
Saturday we went to an exhibit on Antarctic expeditions then off to meet up with our friend Oliver and girlfriend to visit the castle. This time we went inside to follow the path of history. Of course there were a couple meals and a couple pubs in the day too. It was a great visit and we got enough of a taste to know we want to go back. Not in August when all the festivals are on though.
